Busy sort of day. Guy started the long drive towards Belgium via Lille, whilst I carefully planned in an easy to get to hypermarket en-route and more importantly, while we were still in France, so we could stock up with coffee. A confusing junction caused us to miss this easy shopping experience, and what followed was the most difficult ever to access alternative. We went up and down the same roads like idiots for about half an hour. No parking for high vehicles either!
Got what we wanted though in the end and we made our way towards Namur for a lunch stop.
The heat today feels incredible, in the 30’s all day.
In Namur we drove up to the citadel where you can park for free with fab views over the river and the city. After walking uphill to the top, we were both drenched in sweat so decided to get the cable car down into the town, thinking it would be a nice, cool, ride. After paying for return tickets, we saw a sign saying the cars could reach up to 40°c inside, in hot weather. 😬

We promptly melted!

The town itself was a bit underwhelming so we were grateful we didn’t have to walk the steep hill all the way back up to the car park.
Back in the air conditioned box, we limped our way into Luxembourg on fumes, and then filled the tank with much cheaper diesel.
Guy wanted to return to Dillingen, just inside the German border as there’s a beautiful lake which is teeming with wildlife. It didn’t disappoint and we had a lovely evening walk, spotting Beavers, Kingfishers, Cormorants and the biggest fish I’ve ever seen – I thought it was an alligator!

Last time we were here, we met an old man in the bird hide who pointed out all the different species and told us he came every day.
We were sad to see a poster with his face on, saying how much he’d loved nature and that he’d died last year. I think he must’ve been well known in the area.
