Reluctantly left the campsite this morning, and headed inland, up towards Girona and on to Besalú.

We’ve been here before with our boys but it’s a lovely old town and well worth a re-visit as it’s on our route towards the Pyrenees.

We couldn’t believe the number of motorhomes in the car park plus coaches and cars everywhere. I think we came in the height of summer last time, but today, Easter Monday, was far busier.

You can’t really see the town until you start to cross the eleventh century fortified bridge over the river Fluvià. Then, it’s almost instantly like going back in time. Narrow streets are filled with shops selling pottery, wicker, cheese, swords, shields etc Then there are a couple of nice squares surrounded with cafes and restaurants. Once you’ve had enough of the town there’s a gravelly beach by the river to sit on.

We walked around in slow motion – after yesterday’s jaunt, we’re both a bit tired and slightly sunburnt. It doesn’t feel that hot when there’s a breeze but the factor 15 has come out today.

Settled in for the night in the now half empty dusty car park. Hoping the boy racers don’t come around to do some donuts! 🙄
