Bowness-on-Windermere

Tried to get to Silverdale this morning and got a very swift reminder that this is a bank holiday Monday! Total gridlock 😬Think most of the caravan owners were heading home and with roads not really wide enough for any of us it was almost a complete disaster!

Thanks to Mr Bramley’s top notch driving skills, we made it out unscathed.

Onwards and upwards towards Lake Windermere; the roads were quite bumpy in places – just need resurfacing..a bit like Mapperley. Managed to park just outside Bowness-on-Windermere. Lovely spot, but I think we’ve probably seen it on one of its worst days…so many people. We haven’t been to the Lake District before so we were unsure what to expect. What I didn’t expect was to see a big family sitting in the middle of a golf course having a picnic 😂

We took the wrong route to Windermere, walking along a busy main road. The town was a bit quieter and more attractive than Bowness though. Thought we’d have an ice cream to walk back with…crikey what has happened to ice creams???? Flipping massive – even Guy was struggling to eat his 😂 I swear mine would’ve fed a family of four – think they’ve gone American and supersized them!

Now we are up at the top of Kirkstone Pass with very little signal. Had a drink in the tiny pub so that we can stay the night in the car park. Plenty of that fine rain and mist rolling in up the hills, should make for a quiet night and the heating is officially on!

Bowness and Windermere on a Bank Holiday 🙄
