Got quite a few miles done today on the motorway, heading south towards Seville and hopefully a bit of warmth.

We stopped for lunch and a walk around one of our favourite places in Spain – Cáceres.

It’s just such a lovely, atmospheric town and the main square is amazing as all the conversations from the cafes seem to echo around it. There were a few people asleep on the benches today as I think their carnival finished last night so the council workers were just tidying up around them. 😂

We decided to carry on a bit further south and ended up here in Zafra. The motorhome parking is on a main road, which is pretty busy but we’ve managed to park at the back, so hopefully won’t be too noisy. Walked into the town centre which didn’t look too promising apart from a load of storks nesting on the chimneys. Once again though, as if by magic, it opened up into two beautiful arcaded plazas surrounded by whitewashed narrow streets.

Preparations were in full swing for the evening’s ‘end of carnival’ sardine party, which seemed to involve placing a coffin on a stage – no idea why! 😂 We were advised to return around 8pm, which we did. Spain is so different at night – everyone of every age is out and about, either shopping, eating and drinking or just stood around talking. Tonight, they were all in the square enjoying the local band and a free barbecue of fresh sardines. No airs and graces, queue up and get it – one big sardine and a hunk of bread.

Four or five men worked tirelessly, keeping the fires stoked and loading up the huge grills with fish -great entertainment to watch but oh boy, how bad do our clothes stink now!? 😆🐟🐠
