We always like to visit Cádiz whenever we are this direction -it’s such a lovely city.
We thought we’d catch the boat across this morning as it’s more direct and much more pleasant than the bus.
As is becoming a bit of a theme this trip, after walking half a mile, we found the road closed to pedestrians 🙄
Had to go around the maze of streets and promptly missed the boat!
Walked to the bus stop but we weren’t sure if we were in the right place for the bus number we needed. Guy asked the driver of the bus that was already in and he was going to Cadiz anyway…result!

It was a beautiful warm sunny day but we’ve been lulled into this false sense of security before – we took padded jackets and needed them. Cadiz essentially seems to have two temperatures going on. Inner Cadiz is probably designed to be really cool. The breeze blows up the grid of narrow streets and it’s not until you reach the main square or the outer perimeter, that you realise it’s actually a hot day! In fact the area around the city’s beach (Playa de la Caleta) felt like the middle of summer.

On one side of the peninsula-island there is the exotic Parque Genoves – a beautiful place to wander through with its topiary and very old trees. I think it was here that we first saw green parakeets – we were amazed, and yet now they seem to be all over England!

We ordered a Russian salad for lunch. Trying to be healthy, expecting some green leaves, but having no idea really. When eight domes of potato, tuna, egg mayonnaise type things turned up, we queried it with the waiter, who assured us, it was indeed a Russian Salad. It was nice anyway! 😂
Managed to get the boat back which was great and gave us a good view of the Norwegian tall ship moored up in the port.

The washing was dry, the sun still out, and the noisy Frenchman with quad bike has disappeared into thin air!
