Just missed the carnival by a couple of days this year, but still had a lovely day in one of our favourite places.
I was ready first which is some kind of miracle. Guy, however nearly made us late with a last minute change to jeans. We learned our lesson a couple of years ago when, on what was a warm summery day, I wore a thin dress only to freeze to death an hour later. It is always a very shady and breezy kind of place.
It was lovely to go over on the boat in the sunshine and at about €9 total for both of us – an absolute bargain.
We always like to walk around the outside edge of the city as it feels so exotic. From the pastel coloured buildings and gold domed cathedral on the south side to the fine, sandy Caleta beach at the top, then the tropical looking Parque Genovés along the northern edge.

We had our lunch at the back of the market, where Guy made the wrong choice of some kind of garlic potatoes with two fried eggs on top, tiny shrimps, salt cod and truffle 😬He was not amused when I said he’d had ‘egg & chips’ 🤣
On our way back to the boat, we passed by some workmen putting pigeon spikes on the head of a statue after they’d cleaned it. The poor pigeon looked on dismayed and the statue didn’t look too chuffed with his new crown either!🤣

Back at base camp, Señor Bramley did a quick turnaround and went back into El Puerto for a haircut. He’d rather have a ten minute Shaun Sheep in Spain than risk the dirty nail brush in Morocco again! 🤣
