After a bit of consideration this morning, we’ve decided to go through Austria after all. We were heading for Prague in the Czech Republic, but it’s a longer route back to Calais, involves yet another vignette and there’s some West Ham football thing going off on Wednesday, which would add to the parking conundrum.
Back down the road to Brat’ then straight into Austria, on the smallest roads google could possibly find! Slow going, but we found a great castle to stop at for lunch.
Burg Kreuzenstein is exactly how you’d expect a medieval Austrian castle to look. All towers, turrets and spires with some half timbered bits thrown in for good measure. We walked all around the grounds but didn’t go inside because at €15 per person, we can’t do ‘em all!
More tootling along the little roads this afternoon, until we came across some lakes at Ottenstein, well, they were more like mini fjords really, as we came to realise when we started walking around them. Lots of mosquitoes to fight off, but it was great to be out in the fresh air and the path was good. We saw the Lichtenfels Castle across the water but couldn’t get across to it so we carried on around to the huge dam and power station. Then the sky turned black, so we did a u turn and made our way back. Along the way we saw a woodpecker feeding its young high up in a tree – of course, Guy had the wrong lens with him. 🙄
Now parked up in a proper motorhome place in Zwettel – luxury. Haven’t seen one of these since April!
