We’ve decided that you don’t get anywhere quickly in north west Scotland. It’s quite confusing trying to work out where we are at times…especially when the phone signal disappears.

We headed towards Gairloch first, passing by Ben Eigh. The scenery is stunning, but the roads are quite poor – single track, with no edge and a few potholes. Plenty of passing places, but there are hundreds of motorhomes tootling around as I think we’ve hit the ‘North Coast 500’ route now.

In Charlestown, we thought we were in Gairloch so had a walk around. We went in the equivalent of ‘Steve’s News and Booze’ so that Guy could panic buy a birthday card for me. He hadn’t forgotten but, like me, thought there’d be a few more shops around. There’s one shop that sells all in about a thirty mile radius.

Couldn’t park in Gairloch or Big Sand so had lunch in a lay-by overlooking the bay.

Followed the coast up until we reached the Corrieshalloch Gorge. What a find! Brilliant walk down to a suspension bridge with a huge drop into the gorge underneath it, then a metal viewing platform further up. Lots of waterfalls along the way and a few unusual mushrooms.

Decided to stay in the lay-by for the night as it’s nice and quiet, then drive down to Ullapool tomorrow. There’s a Tesco superstore…I can hardly contain my excitement 😂
