Back up the hill to Delphi this morning as the convention ended yesterday so we were thinking it would be much quieter. The car park we’d found on Friday was certainly quiet…that was because it was a mile and a half away! We walked through the busy town on a road with no pavement and eventually came to the entrance, along with a million other people. Forgot it was Sunday!

Walked down to the Marmaria, or marble quarry first. The rebuilt, fourth century bc rotunda, called the Tholos, has become the symbol of Delphi but no-one really knows what it’s there for! Back up the road to the main entrance then and seeing the queues, we both decided we couldn’t stand the crowds, so Guy got the big zoom lens out and we had a virtual visit. 😂 Spent the entrance money on another spinach pie and some home made baclava for lunch. No wonder my clothes don’t fit! 😭
A bit further east, the Ósios Loukás Monastery was far more pleasant. Still a few coach loads around, but it was easy to see everything – a lovely place.

Heading down towards Corinth on an old road, there wasn’t much to see, apart from empty petrol stations. We found a water tap to fill up in the most awkward place ever – right in a road junction, not easy.
The high point was the amazing Karakolithos war memorial we stopped to look at. A tribute to the fallen of WW2 in a brilliant setting, but right next to the road so you can’t miss it!

Eventually, we turned down a narrow road back towards the northern side of the gulf of Corinth. A very steep road led us down towards Porto Germeno. The brakes were smelling very hot by the time we parked overlooking the tiny port. Looks like a nice place but enough for one day.
