The long and winding road from just outside Narvik to Fauske has taken all day. The scenery has changed a bit, from sharp, jagged peaks to great big humps of purple rock. Still winding around fjords though, and it’s still very beautiful – when we’re not tunnelling 😁.

Apparently, you can camp anywhere in Norway, but we’ve decided that’s if you can park vertically against a rock! There are plenty of lay-bys to be honest, usually with picnic benches and toilets, but if you want to walk anywhere from them it’s impossible. The roads are narrow and without pavement, and the mountains rear up immediately at the roadside, so unless you find a proper hiking trail you’ve shot it basically.
This has been our problem today. So, each time we’ve carried on driving.
There was a short interlude at lunch time, when we had to get a ferry in order to stay on the same road. It seems to be the norm here in order to get across fjords. Just turn up and pay as you get on. Today’s was about £35. It took about half an hour so not too bad really.
It rained late afternoon when we stopped, so we sat around for a bit like proper motorhomies 😂. Then, we got bored and decided to move again and drove the last ten minutes into Fauske. Finally, we got a walk and the sun was shining.
