Our departure from the campsite this morning put the man on reception into a right spin.
“You want to check out?” he asked incredulously. “I can try, but you see it’s not normally my job..”
Somehow he managed to take the correct amount from our account successfully and as we left, it looked like he was gearing himself up to ask for a promotion! 🤣
We started ambling south on a coast road but there was nothing much to see and we were getting nowhere fast, so joined the motorway.
Lots of roads closed and floods around. Some huge trees uprooted by the wind too.
Took a ticket at the toll booth but at the other end the barrier remained closed and a load of hieroglyphics
came up on the screen. After a minute too long and without paying, the barrier lifted and let us through. Don’t know what to think about that one – maybe it’s free on Sundays 🤔
Figueira da Foz seemed like the next obvious stopping point, but it turned out to be a bit of a faceless ‘modern’ resort. We managed to park for lunch and watched a bike race at the same time. Had a little walk but nothing much to see other than a very wild ocean.
Moved slightly south later for a better night time spot. It’s a tiny place called Costa de Lavos and you’d think it would be deserted, but both the little restaurants are nearly full. Plenty of dog walkers and couples out and about, braving the wild and windy weather. The beach looks beautiful but all entrances are taped off for safety I think.

In other news, Guy is becoming more confident at losing at cards. As this occurrence is getting more and more regular, he has developed coping mechanisms such as saying ‘Well done!’ through gritted teeth to the winner. He has now achieved a solid C- and hopes to continue improving this term.
