Eventful day today. Dragged Guy kicking and screaming out of Norway and into Sweden. Had to get LPG and diesel first, then call at the customs office. When we bought the camera lens, we were given a form to get stamped which would give us 25% tax back when we left Norway. The man behind the desk studied the paperwork as if he’d never seen anything like it before in his life! He then informed us that ‘yes’ he could stamp the form, but the import duty and fees we’d have to pay to bring it into the EU would outweigh anything we could claim back.!!!😢😡 I couldn’t get my head around it at first and thought he was just being plain awkward, but in the end he was really kind and said ‘Ok, we’ll do it like this just this once!’ If we actually do get some money back I’ll be flabbergasted.
We decided to drive straight out to a campsite near the coast in Sweden, so called at a supermarket to stock up first. It was quite funny to see loads of Norwegians doing supermarket sweep, as it’s cheaper here. The Systembolaget (gov. controlled wine shop) was a hive of activity compared with Norway’s version, which are empty desolate places.
The campsite is very posh compared to anywhere else we’ve been this trip, but we’ve managed to bring the tone down by stringing up two loads of washing! 😬
We were given a free swipe card to use on a ferry if we wanted to walk into Strömstad. It was a warmish, sunny afternoon so we decided to give it a whirl. The ‘boat’ across the river was so funny. You operated it yourself with the swipe card, and it looked like a floating bus stop. 😂
The little seaside town was really nice, with quite a few people about even though it’s now out of season. There was a discussion about getting back before the washing got damp, then we passed a lovely little bar on the harbour with people sat outside. “Pint?” says Guy…”Thought you’d never ask” I replied. “Ha, not so bothered about the washing now are you?” “Er, no…don’t give a monkeys” 🍷
Back at base, sometime later, we actually managed to eat outside and we were joined by a lovely little fox.
