Been a full on rainy day today so we started driving along the north coast and just kept going.
I’d half expected the roads to be a bit wider up here, but still single track with passing places for most of it.
The scenery has gradually changed from rocks and mountains to rolling hills and it’s definitely autumn up here. The bracken and heather have turned brown and the temperature has hit the dizzy heights (or lows) of 9 degrees!

Did a precarious drive down to Strathy Beach for lunch but couldn’t see it from the car park and neither of us wanted to brave the elements and get soaked.

Carried on through Thurso which was the first proper town we’ve seen in ages, then up towards Dunnet Head. Parked about a mile from the top, then walked up around 6pm when the rain stopped. Good lighthouse, and views I would imagine on a clear day.
Decided to take the van up to the top in case there was a decent sunset. Think we might be missing the winter duvet tonight. 😂
