Inadvertently had another long day in the car ☹️. Guy reckons the miles on google maps don’t match the km’s! We were into Italy very quickly this morning and thought we were just driving for a couple of hours maximum. Having paid a hefty toll to travel a few miles on the motorway, we decided upon the scenic route. Scenic is an understatement when it comes to the Dolomites – they seem so jagged and pointy compared to other mountain ranges we’ve seen. We went through endless little towns with narrow roads and juggernauts thundering towards us without slowing down ..it’s like a game of bottle! Stopped for some shopping at Lidl and then again for lunch. I didn’t feel able to help with the driving as the roads were far too windy and narrow -I only do straight, no traffic! As we got closer to Cortina we drove off the main road to pick up water from a service point – it was in deep snow and the tap had broken. With the help of a couple nearby we got water from a tap at a trough which was fed directly from a mountain stream. Rufus thinks it’s Evian. Our poor dog has a little bandage 🤕 on today as he’s knocked a big wart off the top of his head …think he’d decided it was a bit unsightly on an Airedale anyway. We eventually reached Cortina which is lovely. Guy and Callum have cycled up here before so he recognised much of it. Had a coffee in town then came back and collapsed just as the sun went down.
