It takes a very long time to get across the top of Türkiye, east to west. Spent virtually all day driving again, there’s not much of interest on the eastern side of the Black Sea coast, but when it reaches the nice bit, after Sinop, the coastal road doesn’t look wide enough for us. 🙄
We decided to stay on the dual carriageway which turned inland at the industrial town of Samsun, thinking we’ll come back out again somewhere near Amasra. Not that simple!
Stopped to jet wash the van again, it was so ditched we needed seven tokens!
Later in the day we reached a town called Osmancik, where we thought we might stay overnight. Tea was boiling at the side of the road all the way in…exactly how much tea do they drink here? Every twenty metres another urn was bubbling away.

Couldn’t turn off for the parking due to roadworks, but despite the crumbling castle, we decided we didn’t fancy it anyway.

Further along, at Tosya, we had to turn onto a mountain road and soon came to a halt for roadworks. Fresh tarmac – just what we need splattered all over the van now we’ve cleaned it! We waited patiently at the front of the queue, then, an ambulance came speeding past – even he was told to slow down. Close behind him, was some nutter tailgating who nearly ran the workman with the stop sign over. Diabolical. The driving standards in Türkiye are shocking – not sure if it’s a lack of brain cells or they’re just not taught properly.

Thought as a last resort, we’d park for the night in the little town of Kastamonu. Of course, it’s a massive city!
Last laugh of the day was when a rickety little truck with three blokes squeezed in the front, pulled alongside and asked Guy if he wanted to swap vehicles.🤣
