We think we’re about 70 miles outside Istanbul. It’s taken all day to get here again – feeling like a long distance lorry driver’s mate! I knew I’d lost the plot this morning when I made a pot of coffee without actually putting any coffee in it!
We stopped at a tiny lake for lunch called Yeniçağa. Seems like everyone is in search of a green space! It would appear that all lakes haves picnic areas here, usually with a children’s play area and about twenty individual, covered barbecue areas, all in the shade of the trees. Sounds idyllic, but the reality is usually a litter strewn area and in this instance, the lake was like pea soup full of plastic rubbish. Didn’t stop people fishing though!
It’s got hot again, but just to have a walk to the lakeside, I had to put the long dress on as everyone else is covered from head to toe.
There was much eventful driving on the roads as usual …I think we need to get some spinners on our wheels like the lorry drivers have – that’d fend them off!

A car fire was giving off a ton of smoke at one point. Guy had to slow down to check that the fire brigade were doing their job properly 🤣

A high percentage of vehicles here look like they’re going to catch fire at any moment with the amount of black smoke spewing out of their exhausts.
Arrived at the huge Lake Sapanca mid afternoon, along with many coach loads of picnicking people. Really not sure what the big attraction is here, but again, there was a whole field full of individual families having barbecues. We couldn’t get near to the lake as you were almost forced into a reputedly very expensive restaurant in order to see it. Said restaurant had more coach loads come in the evening too.

We tried walking around the road thinking that might take us back in towards the lake, but it was all fenced off.

Guy found a small puppy wandering around and wanted to take it home until it’s four brothers and sisters popped out from under a car! He had big feet anyway, so wouldn’t have stayed little for long!
