Not the best day. Started with a fifteen minute circular tour of Lucca as we tried to get out with google maps on ‘walk’ instead of ‘drive’- fools! We’d got, we thought, a forty minute drive to Lerici, but ended up driving all day. We missed the turning for Lerici and couldn’t get back so headed through La Spezia towards Portovenere. Twisty headland roads and when we finally got there, nowhere to camp or park….unless we wanted to pay €42 for the night. I knew the Cinque Terre would be difficult to get to and had thought we’d be able to see a bit of it by train or boat, but its just impossible to camp anywhere- keep forgetting we are now in June and everywhere is getting busy, especially at weekends. Will have to come back and do this another time – in a car!! Finally ended up on a busy campsite just inland from Sestri Levante. Found ourselves a nice little spot at the top and had just settled in when a German couple came and shoehorned their caravan into the corner. “Ve have a cat” she said. “Oh dear!!” We said 😬😬😬! Rufus hates cats with a passion. It’s ok, said the lady because she is like a dog. Well, our dog doesn’t have his own chair at the table – yes, I kid you not. It took part in the full meal, cake and all. There are some benefits occasionally to the fact that Rufus’ eyesight is going.
