Said goodbye to our Italian friends this morning after Guy had spent half an hour dripping in sweat on the turbo 😅! We then blasted up the motorway, calling in at various service stations trying to find a tyre inflator machine that actually worked. As we hit the sea of plastic greenhouses around Almeria, we decided to detour inland a little in order to see some of the desert-like scenery where ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ and other spaghetti westerns were made. We knew we were in the right place as there’s a Hollywood sign in the hills. It is a very weird landscape here; there’s hardly any rainfall and it’s very hot – even in March!

We had lunch in the small town of Tabernas, then walked up to the castle for spectacular views of the ‘folded’ mountains.
Back on the main motorway that follows the coast, it seemed like there’s even more plastic than this time last year. Eventually, we arrived at Mazarrón and got ourselves on a huge campsite next to the sea. Think we may have been here before but will have to check it out tomorrow.
