Calahonda from the sea

It was a little noisy in the big car park on the headland last night.
First the kids came for a meet up, then the fishermen came back and had a late night chat.
This morning, all the old men, came up from the little village below and sat on the picnic bench for an hour ..they were even joined by ‘bread van’ man and the local police! People are so sociable in Spain – usually during the hours when I’m defo not! 🤣

We meandered along the coast road for a while, which has turned out to be far more scenic than we thought as the greenhouses are generally on the hillsides and the landscape is quite rocky with little coves.

Found a lovely little bay with a car park above it called Playa de la Rijana so we locked up the van and walked down. The signs warning you to take your valuables with you were a little disconcerting, but then Guy noticed a man on the hillside throw a pebble on top of the tunnel causing an echo and another man hanging around the carpark. In his head the pebble man was giving notice to the thief when car owners reached the beach or were coming back.
We couldn’t settle and decided that intuition was a good thing…either that or complete paranoia has kicked in now Guy is 60! 🤣

Moving on, we came across Calahonda which I’d heard of and always thought was some massive resort. It’s actually quite a nice little low key kind of place, although virtually everything is closed.
Parked almost on the beach and checked with local policeman that it’s ok to stay overnight.
Hot and sunny, two swims – a great afternoon.

Found one hotel open when we went for a walk ..it seems that a vermut here consists of a measure of gin followed by some home-made concoction in a jug. I don’t like gin normally, but this was kind of nice in a Benylin cough medicine style.
Guy had two in order to make sure he remains cough free for the rest of October!
