Just made it for the 11am boat this morning. We got on board, sat down, then realised there were only about six seats. Suddenly a coach load of ‘pushers and shovers’ turned up. Ordinarily, I would have given my seat up for some of these older people, but they were so rude. Thought the boat was going to tip over at one point as they all stood on the same side.
We looked up the cost of their trip later – £247 🤭 We’ve done virtually the same thing for £20. Think they got a free egg sandwich though!
There was a long walk up a gravel path when we got off the boat and a coach carrying same people zoomed past us covering us in clouds of dust. 🙄
There were some fab views of the glacier along the way but you could get even closer (safely) by following a trail across the rocks once the path ended. I wasn’t too ‘Bambi like’ on this occasion but still got passed by dogs, children and old dears.
At our closest point, the whole thing looked like some turquoise blue polystyrene…just didn’t look real. Norway’s second largest, it’s the cleanest glacier we’ve seen, maybe something to do with it being so close to sea level.
On the way back, there was a huge water pipe suspended in the air for you to stand under or fill up water bottles. You could see it coming down the mountain side and it was the cleanest, freshest tasting water ever.
It’s been really hot all day – I dressed in black so I could absorb more heat…like a storage heater ‘off of’ the 70’s. Once back at the van we returned to last nights parking spot and sat in the sun for a while. Shorts on, clouds came, followed by every flying ant in the northern hemisphere! 😂
