Short drive into the big town of Náfplio this morning. Got good parking near the Palamidhi Fortress, which at 216 metres high looked a bit too challenging for our lazy legs today!

We chose the coastal path instead, and walked the 45 minute route around the bottom of the cliffs to Karathónas beach. There was glorious sunshine all the way there and back and it was only hunger that caused the u-turn !😬

After a lunch where we ate all the good stuff at once from yesterday’s shop, we took the other coastal path into the town. It was very windy on the headland and suddenly much cooler.

The town contained about thirty bus loads of teenagers, who were all having a whale of a time but the noise levels in the tiny streets was a bit of a shock to the system. It’s a beautiful, lively town though, with sparkling clean travertine slabs to walk on.

On the way back we looked around the remains of the smaller fort. It seemed to lead into a big hotel complex, but just as we decided to turn around, a couple told us there were some lifts back down to the beach and that the whole complex was very James Bondy…(is that an adjective 😂?). We got in the tiniest lift – the other two weren’t working, and emerged into a surreal underground tunnel back to the seafront.

Back through the town again with aching feet, crawled up to the van just in time for wine o’ clock.
