What a day! Got up early and ready to set off in the rain. Guy reversed into the spot near the hosepipe ready to fill up with water. Unfortunately, he caught the side of the motorhome on a bike rack which he couldn’t see in the pouring rain. Two long dints ☹️- at least it hasn’t taken the white off but whether it can be fixed or not remains to be seen.
Soldiering on, we drove up the coast road on the west side of the lake, passing a road closed sign along with a hundred others. Twenty miles later, after driving through floods, rivers, road debris, torrential rain and hail we were told to turn around as there’d been a landslide on to the road further ahead. So, about an hour and a half later we landed right back where we started. 🙄
Undeterred by the mornings events and fortified with a chocolate croissant, we made the decision to go south on the motorway and then head for Como. Got there fairly quickly, but I think the parking we’d sorted was on the wrong side of town. A few rough sleepers around and looked a bit dodgy.
A bit of fast research made us drive up the coast to Bellagio which is on a promontory in the middle of lake Como – big mistake! 
Worst drive ever (except for that cliff face in Montenegro!). Hugging the coast, the road twisted and turned, went up and down and every bend was completely blind. None of this was the real problem – it was the Italian drivers coming the opposite way at warp speed on the wrong side of the road! My imaginary brake got some hammer and many bad words came out. We did see a bus at one point so the road was definitely wide enough.
Finally found some parking and walked into Bellagio which is lovely.
Investigated getting a ferry out of here tomorrow as we don’t want to get back on that road. Apparently there’s been another landslide on the west coast so looks like we’ll go to Varenna on the other side.
Started walking the mile and a half back up hill to the van when the heavens opened and we got soaked once again! Must invest in a brolly. ☔️

The storm has just been right overhead and I swear I’ve just been hit by a thunderbolt. Hiding under the table for the first time in my life!
Guy thinks it funny to turn the lights off, put his phone torch on and shout bang really loudly. He will be on EBay tomorrow!
OMG. What a day!
