Well, I have to admit I wasn’t keen on coming this far north today, but what a pleasant surprise! Seemed like the minute we crossed the border, the skies turned blue, the sun came out and summer had returned with a balmy 23 degrees.
It was a grey miserable start in Whitehaven. We had a little walk along the coastal path but it was a bit grim. As we were getting ready to leave, a man approached me in a wheel chair and asked where I was from. “Oh, I’m from Mansfield’ he said, “…while you’re here, I do caricatures of motorhome owners – do you want one?” 😂After declining politely, it occurred to me that it’s a very niche market he’s targeting.

Got to Gretna Green in time for lunch and also just in time for a wedding with accompanying piper! Guy’s dad apparently sent a postcard from here to his then girlfriend Jean (Guy’s mum) saying “how about it?” 😂…I think she said Yes.
Zoomed up the big empty motorways, just keeping the doors locked through Glasgow 😬which is far bigger than any of us realised. Got to Balloch, just at the bottom of Loch Lomond and tucked ourselves neatly into the corner of a free car park.

Had a great walk in the sunshine along the banks and up to the castle, where we saw our first red squirrel. All very calm and quiet after the lakes; just the drone of the seaplane and the odd jet skier.
