We left our gypsy encampment this morning after draining our grey water and missing the drain – oops! Our water seems to come out in a totally different place to everyone else’s and it’s not always possible to get close enough to it. We drove through the next town looking for a cash machine – I’ve never seen parking like it. Cars were just abandoned everywhere, double parked, parked at ninety degrees to the pavement – no one cares. At one point we couldn’t get down the road and a chap shouted to a woman who was just going into the fish shop to tell her, her car was in the way. She said words to the effect of “ I won’t be a minute – let me just get my fish!!” In the meantime, traffic backed up behind us but no one complained …think it’s just the norm. Guy then took me on a mystery trip up a steep zig zag mountain road to a place called Savoca. We had coffee in the same cafe where Michael Corleone spoke to Apollonia’s dad in The Godfather. Favourite films, so was a good surprise – until two coach loads turned up! We walked up to the church where the wedding was filmed too. Apparently, there’s little point going to Corleone itself as it was mainly filmed here at Savoca. Good views from the town as well, everything is very green – I was expecting Sicily to be parched and dusty for some reason. Came back down to the coast and found a good Camper stop place in Naxos. Had a walk to the beach and generally loafed around. We need to hang around for a couple of days before going up Etna for the Giro d’Italia bike race! 🚴🏻♂️
