Guy took a few photos of the rocks and wild sea this morning, then we left to go slightly inland to Obidos, an old walled town given by the King to his Queen many years ago. We decided to leave Rufus in the motorhome for the first time. He seemed exhausted and was fast asleep having had a little walk. The car park appeared safe and secure and we left the vents open, although it wasn’t hot. He was still snoring when we got back!👍 Beautiful little town with narrow cobbled streets filled with tiny shops. Wish I’d stayed looking round the shops instead of being cajoled up on to the ramparts to look at the views. There were kind of steps up the first bit which finished in a bit of climbing…all the Chinese tourists were doing it so I assumed that must be the only bad bit. It was terrifying! I don’t mind heights if there’s no danger of me falling, but this was just a narrow ledge mostly at roof height of a three storey house with a sheer drop on one side. If that wasn’t bad enough, there were steps up and down plus people wanting you to walk past them on the wrong side – I refused. There was a point where I nearly had a complete mardy meltdown when I thought there was no way down other than the way we came up. Assured there were some steps further round, we carried on. The steps were the steepest ones I’ve ever seen …couldn’t believe they were walk downable, but shorter than the next lot so we did it. The photos really don’t convey how scary it was …health & safety non existent! Shaking like a leaf I downed a promised cherry 🍒 brandy on sale in a chocolate cup and felt much better. 😦Heading back out on to the coastal road we drove into Nazaire and parked up next to the beach to have lunch. Then on to the Pinhal de Leira …a 700 year old pine 🌲 forest bordering vast white beaches. As we drove through we saw great swathes of it had been burnt in the recent fires …quite scary to see all that damage. Had a nice walk with Rufus – the smell of of pine and eucalyptus was incredible. Parked for the night at Sao Pedro de Moel by a beautiful beach and watched another sunset….it’s a hard life!
