The sea was a bit loud last night – not complaining but we struggled to sleep with the roar of the waves. We got up to find the carpet in the lounge/ kitchen soaking wet. The only possible answer is the shower plug hole being blocked due to my hair moulting faster than Rufus’. None of us saw it happen and getting it dry is posing a bit of a problem. Fortunately Rufus’ furry rug that he sleeps on was ok. We rolled it up and stuck it in the hold till we could get somewhere to hang it out. Set off for Tomar which is inland and slightly south from where we were. Phone nav took us on a very interesting route through the back streets of Leiria. Think when you put in ‘avoid motorways’ it automatically puts you on the narrowest streets possible. Parked on an ex-campsite that is now purely for motorhomes and is free. Found a washing line and put the carpet out to dry, hopefully. It’s been very misty today but on the way here every other house had a big fire in their garden so we think half the mist is smoke. Must be burn your rubbish Saturday! Very different scenery inland, very green and big houses with lots of land around them. Tomar is pretty stunning – we walked up to the Convento de Cristo which was the headquarters of the Order of the Knight Templar. It was the best castle type thing we’d ever seen. Walked around the ramparts ( but this time there was a handrail -thank God!), amazing views, greenery and orange trees everywhere. Just as amazing inside too. Thought we’d wander back in to the town at night to see all the Christmas lights but they weren’t switched on. 🌲☹️
