The excitable photographer was up at the crack of dawn, getting a couple of miles of rock scampering in. He got his sunrise pictures, so came back happy and frozen at 8am. He wasn’t alone, as I could hear cars and vans arriving by the dozen as I tried to get some more 💤😂

After double coffee, I was encouraged to go on an easy walk around the Tre Cime Lavaredo. About four hours, he’d seen the path – it was big and wide.

Now, I’ve heard all this before! I knew what was coming and no way was it going to be easy.

We set off, and I was immediately lulled into a false sense of security by the hoards of people marching up the path. In fact, I was more worried about social distancing.

Staggering views of the mountains, especially as we reached the ridge.

The warning signs were there though, when we turned off away from the crowds and started along a dodgy looking scree slope. At times it was just rocks to climb over and we couldn’t even see a path. I was a bit reassured when I saw others scrambling along but mostly I just wanted to whistle for Skippy because he helps people that are stranded on a ridge!

Eventually, we rejoined the hoards on a proper path – I think even Señor Bramley was secretly relieved. Got back to the van and collapsed.

We decided to save the €25 fee of a second night and drove back down the mountain in first gear. Down in the valley now at Lago di Cadore on a motorhome site, having stopped for wine, chocolate, crisps, nuts and Tiramisu (family size).
