Drove into the middle of Salzburg this morning – well, Guy did. Found a car park we could get in to … it cost us 12 euros but we didn’t know that when we parked! A very different city to what we’ve seen so far. Famous as the birthplace of Mozart, it has lovely old baroque buildings, is very clean with lots of up market designer shops. We wandered round for a couple of hours, had some Bratwurst and Weiner sausage for lunch then followed it up with apple strudel and coffee. It was threatening rain when we got there and felt cold, so we had fleeces, jumpers etc on. Suddenly, the sun came out and it was instantly hot and blindingly bright without sunglasses. We walked back through some very attractive gardens then set off for Berchtesgaden passing some stunning snow capped mountains along the way. Carried on to Konigssee and had a walk round – really beautiful. Now, we’ve parked up half way up to the Eagles Nest (Hitlers holiday place) having come up a 24% gradient of a hill – no idea how we made it seeing as we are carrying a loaf of German black bread which weighs more than me – even after apple strudel!
