The rain never stopped last night – thank God we moved on to the tarmac. The grass was a swamp! The driver had a proper rest though, so it was quite good in a way, that the weather was so foul.
Only driven about 20km to a place called Sand, which is not surprisingly, on the Sandsfjord. It’s a lovely little town with a tiny beach, that seems to be really geared up for motorhomes. Parking is just under £10 for the night, but I think we have the best spot in town with a fab view. We’re parked almost in the fjord – in fact when we look out the windscreen, it feels like we’re on a boat. Even better, we are right next to the ‘Brodrene of Sand’ – a museum piece of a sloop built in 1877 for the herring trade.

Whilst the weather was calm, we went for a walk up towards the ‘Salmon Studio’ where, at the right time, you can see salmon leaping out of the water – there’s even a ladder for them to help them get upstream. After all the rain, the water was a mad raging torrent today but still plenty of fishermen around. Did a circular walk , with plenty to see enroute – not least, an amazing array of mushrooms growing out of a load of wood shavings.
Late afternoon, we set off again on another jaunt, conscious of the fact that we’ve had very little exercise for the last couple of days. This was a ‘proper Norwegian hike’ though. Intermediate level. Now, where Norwegian hiking is concerned…I’m foundation level! The A1 assessor was unfortunately unable to sign me off today due to various Bambi like antics on slippery wet rocks. 😂😂😂Thankfully, we were advised to turn around by a Norwegian couple coming the other way who said it was far too wet and muddy anyway.👏👍
Back at base, we were greeted by a couple of beautiful swans – on the sea? Thought you only got swans on lakes! These two were very friendly – even posed for the photographer.
