A very technical exit from our camping emplacement this morning. Someone had taken the opposite pitch and parked horizontally – basically blocking us in! Guy inched out bit by bit with trees either side preventing the necessary swing, watched all the time by the person who caused the problem! “It is very tight” he says …er yes. Not sure how Guy managed it but I felt like a round of applause would’ve been appropriate!

A tour of the Sherry towns today! Sanlúcar first. Just half an hour up the coast, we managed to park right on the seafront, but Guy was thinking of moving on before he’d even turned the engine off. There was nothing wrong with the place, it just had a vast flat sandy beach backed by apartments but not exciting enough for Mr Bramley. I persuaded him to walk into the town and it was absolutely buzzing with people. We thought it must be market day, but no, just busy. We sat and had a coffee in the lovely square while Guy chased up the post office about the errant camera lens which is still in customs in Seville. Tempted to buy some of our favourite Manzanilla sherry from a fancy bodega but it’s half the price in Lidl.

Jerez next. We’ve never actually been into the town before despite driving past on many occasions. We paid for secure parking and were the last ones to get a place – several others have arrived since and are now lined up in the commercial centre’s parking area. Walked into the centre which is a bit rough and ready on the outskirts despite being described as elegant and prosperous in our 20 year old Rough Guide. We liked it though, and as it was past 5pm we succumbed to a Manzanilla in the sherry capital!

We had visited the cathedral first, which was absolutely stunning inside. Half way round we came across some virtual reality headsets, so, having never tried them before, thought we’d give them a whirl. I was immediately up in the vaulted ceiling floating across the middle of the church. Thinking I might be sick, shouted out ‘Oh my God!’ – not my finest moment 😬 Guy also took the headset off almost immediately so it wasn’t just me! 🤣

We missed the Alcazar as it was closed but we did see the outside of the beautiful Iglesia de San Miguel – also closed.

Back at base camp, we’ve just had paella with chicken (as we have no fish) except, Guy thought it was pork and I thought it was turkey! Why does meat all look the same in the freezer?
