6F81BCC0-070E-4303-9FC6-540DBD9A35F3It rained consistently and heavily all through the night..I really thought we’d float away. The waterfalls around us were coming down with such power it was incredible.

We drove up to Stalheim first, on the old main road, not realising that the narrow route down was 18% nearly all the way, complete with hairpins. We did the whole thing in first gear. It was so steep, we had to stop for a moment at the bottom just to recover from the terror of it all.
Main road all the way to Bergen then. We passed loads of waterfalls and the rivers were flowing at such a crazy speed, you wouldn’t have stood a chance if you fell in. A lot of the fields were completely flooded with trees seeming to be marooned in the middle of lakes!
There were some temporary traffic lights up at one point and cars were being escorted through. Think the water had caused a rock fall on to the road and then down into the valley.
We passed through loads of tunnels again. One in particular was quite scary as it had no road markings, no lights, and was several kilometres long.
Got to Bergen late afternoon and managed to squeeze into a parking spot that is free from 5pm Saturday to 8am Monday. The city is much bigger than we expected, but it seems that we’re right in the centre. It’s full of students and quite a nice vibrant place give or take a few oddballs. We’ve had a little walk round past all the boats and the old timber buildings – probably explore further tomorrow. In the meantime, just discovered that we’ve made the schoolboy error of parking opposite a bottle bank. Chink, chink crash, bang, wallop!
