Last night we missed the start of the Almond Festival in Tafraoute. We could hear all sorts of dance music accompanied by bongos but both too tired from the adventure drive to get our act together and go out.
Even the drive from Tafraoute to Tiznit this morning wasn’t as straightforward as we’d hoped for. Lots of twists and turns on narrow roads again but the scenery is forever changing and always stunning. The rocks around Tafraoute were totally different to anything we’ve seen previously – very rounded pink granite similar to Sardinia we thought.

Got to the city of Tiznit around lunchtime and parked near a beautiful park. Although completely surrounded with walls, the city was only founded in 1882, but still feels like a traditional old Moroccan place. Followed the hordes heading for Friday prayers at the mosque, which is an unusual place, as the minaret has a series of perches sticking out to help the dead climb up to paradise!

We got a bit of hassle from a shopkeeper wanting us to go and look at his products, but I think we were the only tourists in town today so he had to have a go!
We walked into a red hot bakery by mistake and realised we should have been at the shop next door, but once we’d bought a loaf, the owner said it was ok for Guy to take some photos. I don’t know how they do it – I couldn’t bear the heat in there for more than thirty seconds.

Passed by an empty barbershop, so Guy was in the chair like a rocket. The barber took ages fussing over every detail but then the brushing bit was always going to take a while with a ‘nail brush’!! Did a good job though and after I’d taken a photo, he wanted to know Guy’s Instagram account so that he could see it.
Later in the day, we got a notification saying ‘Welcome anytime – I also work as a mechanic, electrician, car painter camper’ 🤣What a surprise!
We decided Tiznit was quite a nice friendly place.

A long straight dual carriageway with good tarmac brought us back south again to Guelmim. Funny though, there were several lorrys just parked randomly on it, with men asleep underneath them!
Parked in the Marjane supermarket car park along with a couple of others, ready for tomorrow’s camel market.
