We can’t quite believe that we are here, parked right on the edge of the Sahara. It is everything, if not more, than you would expect..so peaceful and beautiful.
The day didn’t start off so well as we were both wondering if we’d actually get out of the campsite once we’d told Mohammed that we’d decided not to buy the second hand mat he was willing to trade. He wasn’t happy but swiftly moved on to his next customer.
Then there was the issue with Guy’s phone, which we think had overheated, and was completely dead after being charged overnight. It needed a re-set but without the internet we had no idea how to do it. To be honest, it’s a new phone and we had no idea how to even turn it on!!🤣
With the Moroccan SIM card being in that phone, I had no data either so we had to do old school mapping to get to Merzouga. Only one real hiccup, when we went half way to Mezgida instead …sounds almost the same. Some kids pointed us in the right direction then held their hands out for cash 😬

Got to the first campsite just outside Merzouga and it’s lovely. Once we’d got WiFi, we managed to sort the phone out so we could make and receive Mother’s Day calls.
There’s even a swimming pool here as there’s a hotel at the front but a bit more expensive at about £9 per night including electricity.
We couldn’t decide where to park …started off right on the edge of the sand but soon decided there was no shade and we’d be completely blasted if the wind got up so moved a little further back.
Then we couldn’t decide what to do as it seemed too hot to actually walk up but by the time we’d had a very late lunch it was ok.

What an experience, just amazing watching them bringing the camels out too.
Guy has gone off the idea of a camel ride as we can walk quicker, but it’s more the fact that they’re tied up nose to tail.

Turned breezy as we walked back – nothing like a bit of exfoliation 🤣
