We had a change of plan this morning, after seeing a bird photography exhibition in the square last night, we thought we’d have a walk around the Rusenski Lom nature reserve although it meant retracing our steps by about ten miles. The photos showed all sorts of exotic species ..Golden Oriels, Hoopoes etc. As we approached, the words ‘Gorge’ and ‘Monastery in the rock’ were mentioned. My toes shrank in fear of the walking boots, but all was ok – it was a flat path.

Despite much binocularing and zoom lenses, the only bird we really saw was a buzzard. It was huge though. Oh, and what we thought were wolf tracks – Guy was following the spore like a Matabele warrior! 🤣

Smooth crossing over the Danube and the border into Romania, unlike the poor folks coming the opposite way. Just one car stuck on the bridge caused the traffic and lorries to back up for miles around.

Managed to park in a kind of lay-by for lunch and then we carried on up to the Bucharest ring road. I think for the most part, it was still being laid. Work going on everywhere and a distinct lack of edges, which is fine until someone decides to turn one lane into two.

Trying to get to Sinaia to see Peles Castle, we encountered our own traffic jam, putting another couple of hours on our journey. There was a lot of creative driving by the locals in vain attempts to get just one car in front!

Made it eventually. The grounds to this place are huge and it seems to be very, very popular. Luckily overnight parking is allowed so we will explore tomorrow.
