Getting nowhere fast this morning, mainly because we had to do a Lidl shop first. No room in the car park so it was old skool shopping bags to get it back to the van.
Couldn’t make our minds up where to head next, so ended back towards Cadiz on a long beach by the causeway that runs into the city. It looked like Cadiz centre was about two miles away but in reality it was more like five. Not particularly warm so we decided to head inland instead.

Ended up in Arcos de La Frontera, a stunning white town clinging to a cliff face.

In the car park a few kids arrived in fancy dress, then we started to here music from the town which was up a thousand steps. Guess what? Carnival again!! 😂The thing about the Spanish (in the words of the esteemed Frank Gallagher) is “They know how to party” 🥳🍷🥂

These narrow streets with their beautiful old churches and monuments are chock full of people all having a great time. Wandering through it, you can’t stop smiling and laughing – the fancy dress is bonkers. It’s not just young people either, some were definitely in their eighties. The music was the worst kind of euro pop but they just love it.

From the top of the hill you could see for miles, but we didn’t go down too far the other side as it would have been a long slog coming back up. Amazing how cars drive and park down the narrow streets – one chap had actually put his wheels into the wall to make sure he wouldn’t roll off down the hill.

We thought it best to drive away from the town to park for the night as all the reviews said that boy racers use the car parks at night, so with a carnival on, it would have been eventful.

As it happened, even out by the man made beach at the Arcos reservoir, a party started up, so we’ve moved a bit further down the road again – it is their town after all.
