Trying not to go dizzy 😵‍💫

Poured with rain all night, but today it finally got warm. We drove south first to Pórto Héli, a yachting sort of place with a big, almost circular waterfront. Not many people around yet, but it was nice to have a walk in the sunshine.

Quick food shop at the nearest Lidl with the obligatory chocolate croissant reward, then we detoured slightly, back towards the east coast to Epidaurus….I keep wanting to say Epidural 😬

Pretty stunning place – the amphitheatre here is probably the biggest and best we’ve seen. It seats 14000 people and was built around 320 BC. It was only rediscovered in the nineteenth century as it blends so well into its surroundings. The weirdest thing is the acoustics – various tour leaders were demonstrating by clapping high up and low down. From the highest seats you could even hear them crumple up some paper!

The theatre was part of a sanctuary dedicated to healing, and there were various other ruins to walk around.

Unusually for us, we even went in the museum. Some of the sculptures were exceptionally well preserved – I couldn’t believe how well they can make limestone look like draped fabric.

Just outside the grounds we’ve found a quiet little parking spot in an olive grove along with a few others now …I think we’ve started a trend!
