Lots to do today. Took the scenic route to the outskirts of Madrid which included a climb to 1800 metres which we weren’t expecting. It took us out of the fog though!
Tried to park at Lidl but up a ramp and sharp turn isn’t really suitable for us. Next stop, Zara Home for that essential air freshener! This was inside a beautiful shopping centre, but as it didn’t contain any bike or camera shops, we were in and out in a flash!
The traffic and the roads seemed crazy after the last few days but we did manage to find another Lidl. Trouble was we were really hungry by then so bought half the shop!
We carried on out of the city and stopped in the greener area of Aranjuez. We had a walk around the massive eighteenth century Palacio Real – the buildings and gardens just went on forever, but it was warmish and sunny 🌞

Further south, we were now in the Castilla La Mancha area and there wasn’t a lot to see until we came to Consuegra. On top of a hill here, there is a castle and no less than twelve restored windmills. We had a lovely walk up the hill to see them and the views from the top were amazing, especially with the sun setting in the distance.
(Cue multiple variations of windmill photos🙄)
