Set off for Triberg this morning -not too far after yesterday’s mammoth drive. Along the way we stopped at a town called Biberach for water. It was really pretty with pastel coloured houses. We then got stuck in a traffic jam so the journey was longer than planned. We called in at a cuckoo clock shop with prices from €30 to €6000!….didn’t really want one anyway! Parked up in Triberg and had lunch then set off for Germany’s highest waterfalls. Pretty spectacular. Rufus ran up the steep gradient like a mountain goat only to find we had to wait for Guy at some point who was faffing around with different camera lenses trying to get the impression of white water he was after. I think he succeeded. On the way back down, we saw a red squirrel (wrong lens in camera 🙄), what looked like a black squirrel – don’t know if such a thing exists, and an unusual bird. Could be a Nutcracker but will consult Mr Simpson the birdman. Just as we got about half way down, the heavens opened and the sky was black. Made a run for it – only slightly wet. Then we got stuck in the car park! We spent so long feeding all our small coins into the machine it stopped working and said we’d exceeded our exit time. At the barrier I put the card in and it wouldn’t open! Had to press the help button and a man eventually arrived and made us look like a couple of idiots as the ticket wasn’t the problem – it was the fact that we hadn’t driven the vehicle close enough for it to register – duh! Drove on in the rain and now parked up somewhere below our planned route. We’ll have to get back on track tomorrow.
