Fabulous day today! Set off for Bilbao first thing and arrived around 11am. We parked overlooking the city and caught the funicular down …it was super steep. I think we were expecting a grotty port with a lot of industrial stuff around so we were very pleasantly surprised to find such a beautiful city. The bridges and architecture are stunning and as for the Guggenheim museum – outstanding. Fantastic sculptures outside. I braved standing under the bronze spider …it’s the stuff my nightmares are made of!
There was a huge dog made of flowers – wish Rufus could smell like that one.
Inside, not a straight wall in sight – everything curved to the point where it makes you feel a bit weird. Looked for Robert Langdon in the spiral wall thing but could hardly stand up straight when we reached the centre. A lot of the modern art installations were beyond our comprehension- and sorry, but most of them were utter rubbish! 😬Some good Monets, Cezanne, Picasso etc. though.
Came back to the motorhome for lunch and then drove to Frías via the scenic route. Everywhere was very green and hilly along the way. A bit of trouble finding the parking place but now installed just below the mediaeval town ready to explore tomorrow. Rufus basked and barked in the sunshine whilst we sat outside with …wait for it…tea! Yes, it’s a no wine night made worse by fish stew made with a tablespoon of cayenne pepper instead of paprika – Again!! My fault this time 🙄. Happy 84th Birthday Dad 🍾🎂🥂xx
