9FB320D3-92BB-4C77-A92B-8A467CE12E0BGlad we decided to do this today – not the cheapest option, but saved a lot of faff and a bit of diesel. The ferry had three or four stops and I think it takes careful organising of cars and vans. There was a mixture of sun and cloud so we sat on the upper deck – it was freezing. 🥶Even the husband needed a hat and scarf!
They announced over the tannoy that we’d be making a short stop near a little cave…cue dramatic music as the ship was steered closer and closer to the rocks. Suddenly, it stopped and the crew must’ve had a right laugh as they blew the fog horn. Everyone jumped out of their skin! 😂
Next we passed Pulpit Rock, and I can confirm, it does look like a pulpit overhanging the fjord. You could just about make out someone in white standing on the right hand corner.
At Florli, a few people got off to walk up the 4400 steps to the top of the cliff – not sure how they got back as there are no roads up there.
Passing Kjerag, a huge boulder caught between two cliffs, Guy took a photo and when we zoomed in, we could just about see a brave person stood on top with arms outstretched. They must have a chip missing to do that. The area is also popular with base jumpers…they’ve got two chips missing.90E42898-4B9F-4B9D-9DDE-1780283342D1
Off the boat at Lysboten – top of the fjord, there was nowhere to stop and we were straight into a corkscrew tunnel, then up on to the zigzag road which takes us over the mountains. Nearly needed a 0.5 gear it was so steep, but at least it had an edge on it.
At the top, there’s a cafe with spectacular views and car park for hikers. They charge £30 to park if you are going hiking…no joke! The man wanted £4 for us to go in and take a photo – we turned around at the entrance.
Parked a bit further along and had a walk towards a dam. It was a very weird rocky landscape on the plateau. At one point, we saw a bike on a boulder in the distance and thought it was one of Norway’s Sculpturlandskaps but it was just a mountain biker having a rest. 207067B4-8838-43D4-AE10-367372D5BAACThere was a signpost for a hike, but in typical Norwegian fashion, there wasn’t much sign of a path and it was more like the start of an obstacle course! 98C1EF80-45AF-4844-8121-79BAA86BB32FSat in the sun for a while instead, looking out over miles and miles of rocks and lakes.

Driven a bit further along now and have parked for the night with the most amazing view. We both think it would be even better with a glass of wine, but the nearest ‘offy is 128km away and opens Thursday at 2pm!!😂😂😂4204718A-3978-496D-8269-DD6AF5740BB0C8CC8017-AF73-41A9-814E-CBEA8530F458
