48448D64-9D82-41F4-BD9A-675B227CEDFFThe weather was a bit murky this morning as we set off towards Burgos, even some snow in places. AE1AE0FE-B5ED-49CA-89E7-DE1782B08406Think we’d only been on the road ten minutes when our thoughts turned to wine! 🍷Well, we were in the Rioja region so thought it apt to call in at one of the Bodegas. We chose Altanza…as it was the first one we came to. We were asked at the closed gate how many pallets we wanted to buy 😂…crikey, don’t think we’ve reached that stage yet! Once inside, after making a very small purchase – it was a bit expensive 😬, we were shown around the whole place by the lovely Stephanie. This was after she’d carefully boxed up our wine and held it out towards me as the bottom of the box collapsed…it all fell out and smashed on the floor! Glad the box was still in her hands and not mine – I would’ve felt really bad. New bottles repacked with reinforcements, we were shown around the oak barrels which all came from France and cost €700 each – and that’s before they’ve put any wine in!! On to Burgos. Parked above the city in the grounds of the castle with a ten minute walk down to the cathedral. Last time we came here we only had a quick look at the front, so this time we thought we’d go in. It is absolutely massive – one of the greatest cathedrals in Spain. Gothic in style, and full of different chapels with decorative ceilings. The tomb of El Cid is there too.D1B767AC-E788-4E4B-BF2F-AF0799F1BA28 On the way out, I put one foot on a bit of glass floor…thought it was a hole and jumped back to save myself as I used a bad word in church 😮😬 Guy is still laughing now and we’re many miles down the road in Palencia!C94269A5-CE81-456C-BDEE-E77F188E99CBDFBDE023-772E-49CE-90EA-30C634FD787B
