Rather than risk driving back down the road, we got the ferry across to Varenna on the eastern side of the lake this morning. While we were waiting in the queue Guy nipped out to get some more photos – he only narrowly avoided another complete soaking. Good rainbow though!

Varenna was beautiful and we would have liked to have a look around and maybe stay overnight. Sadly, the park4night app lead us to an underground car park đŸ™„ Guy reached the end of his patience with tiny villages, narrow streets, balconies etc., so we got on the motorway. There are some places where it’s just too difficult to get around in a big white box.

Heading north it started to pour down again and the skies were black. We pulled into what we thought was a small village with motorhome parking called Chiavenna. Mid afternoon we managed a walk when the sun came out. As we walked up the hill we discovered a beautiful old town, surrounded by what seems to be a small city! There were even some botanical gardens on a rock to walk up to and a good Sunday evening passeggiata to observe from behind a glass of Aperol Spritz!
