Perast

It’s been a very long driving day today, but we have ended up in Kotor Bay for the night with an amazing view.

We were awake so early this morning – gaining an hour yesterday as we came in to Serbia has really muddled us up! To say we thought we’d parked by a dam in the middle of nowhere, children were walking past on their way to school at 7:15!!

There were beautiful views over the water as we drove away, then lots of mist hanging around in all the valleys. We seemed to get to the border fairly quickly, and would have got through straight away were it not for a little red tractor stopping by to chat to his border guard mates!

Almost immediately after entering Montenegro, we did what we thought was a quick detour to a mosque. Thought we’d have coffee there and then carry on. The mosque never appeared – it must have been down the other road, so after coffee in a lay-by we climbed our way back up the winding road only to find that roadworks had moved in at the top. What a nightmare to get around them – we were directed to use someone’s drive to turn around, then there was no choice but to go off-roading! 🙄

Back on the correct route we stopped at the Tara Canyon for lunch. Amazing place where you can watch people on zip wires going over a kilometre across the deep gorge.

I hadn’t forgotten how mountainous Montenegro is, for it was here that we inadvertently did our scariest drive ever in 2018. Making sure we didn’t make the same mistake twice, we skirted along the edge of Durmitor and then down towards the town of Niksic. Hundreds of bends all the way, down into valleys , back up mountains, on and on. All very beautiful, with lots of autumn colour, but we were very glad to get to Kotor Bay in the end.

Parked in Perast and had a walk around, but we were worried we might get a ticket, so carried on round to Kotor Town. There was a surreal moment as we drove past the hull of huge cruise ship which was almost overhanging the road.

There were two of them in the bay and I can never get over the size of them.

Kotor Bay

We’re parked facing the water – an absolute bargain for €20 till 6pm tomorrow. The kind carpark man is letting us pay tomorrow because, as usual, we have no cash! 😂
