Saw another big bear this morning! We’d just stopped to have a look at a huge dam, then just around the corner, cars had stopped again.

He just ambled down to the roadside, had a yawn and a scratch, then looked at us all as if to say “What?”. After a dangerous walk across the road, he stood proudly on a rock for a while and then slowly wandered off. 176 photos later, Guy has a repetitive strain injury on his right index finger!

The town of Pitesti, which was next along our route, was very unappealing, so we had lunch in a lay-by and carried on to Bucharest. I think there were lots of interesting and beautiful places we could have de-toured to, but we’ll have to come back another time or ‘Rufus’ will never ‘do Greece’!

Bucharest, capital city of Romania. Well, I don’t think we’ll come back. It’s not an attractive place. We walked around the outskirts of the massive palace of parliament – apparently, the second largest building in the world, after the Pentagon.

Along the way, a golden topped cathedral was being done up – you can’t help but think that some of the money would be better spent elsewhere.

We eventually found the old part of town , which definitely had some atmospheric streets, but the bars and cafes all had people to drag you in, but getting a glass on lemonade was almost impossible.

The best bit, once again, was probably the tiny orthodox monastery church. So beautiful inside and cool.

Back to the van, we couldn’t find anywhere sensible to park, so I think for the first time in five years of motorhoming, we’ve had to resort to a motorway service area. Seems really nice – it’s all brand new!
