A very quiet night for us in this tiny village called Mikrolimni on the small Prespa lake. This whole place is meant to be teeming with wildlife – the tiny island opposite is apparently totally infested with snakes!
We set off this morning to discover the little island of Agios Achillios, reached by a pontoon bridge that’s over a kilometre long. Of course, it was getting on for midday by the time we made it up to the Saint Achilleios Holy Cross at the far end of the island. Lovely views of the lake but we nearly melted – “mad dogs and Bramleys…”.

After lunch we drove a little further up to the village of psarades which was heaving with people all having lunch in the tavernas. Lovely spot overlooking the bigger lake but Guy still couldn’t see the pelicans.
According to the locals there used to be the biggest population in the world here, but sadly bird flu has seriously depleted the numbers in last couple of years.
A bit further up, on a kind of causeway that joins the two lakes, he struck lucky – with the zoom lens anyway. It involved him putting his foot in a swamp and returning to the van smelling a little unsavoury. 🤣

Back in Mikrolimni, we sat outside with a cup of tea and were joined by a nice young couple from Thessaloniki and the Netherlands. They stayed for about an hour, trying to work out the complexities of brexit 🤣and it was nice chatting to them.

Returning to our new second favourite restaurant tonight as there’s not much food left in the van and no Lidls around here. That’s the excuse we’re using anyway!
