Struggling to get up this morning..it may have something to do with the taverna owner’s home-made Tsipouro! He was interested to know what we thought …I daren’t tell him the truth, I just said that I thought it was really strong – just needs more ice in apparently.
Didn’t want to upset him, but he’d poured us both a huge glass and proudly said it was over 50%proof. The little plant on the table may have wilted today. 🤣

When we finally got moving, we drove to Kastoria, about 40 minutes away. The town is built on a wooded promontory surrounded by a lake, but although it has a good write up in the Rough Guide, there’s not much to the town itself. We walked around the edge of the lake for a while, past many busy tavernas, then walked up a thousand steps in the heat of the day to only walk through some back streets.

There are lots of fur shops here as the town became rich on the trade by hunting beavers to extinction. It now imports furs and farms beavers.
Parked a little further around the island after lunch, hunting for shade. We had a nice walk, passing a little monastery and looking at the birds on the lake. Glad I didn’t put my feet in though as we saw a water snake!

The little quiet bar we’ve parked next to has just become the place to be on Sunday night! 🍺Now rammed!
