A late get up and then a relatively smooth trip around the coast, heading towards the border at Ipsala.
We stopped at a little port with a long name for lunch just before Tekirdağ. It was really quiet, with just a few empty restaurants and fishermen around – seemed weird after the madness of Istanbul. Didn’t have a walk as the last time we crossed from Türkiye into Greece, it took all afternoon and half the night!
Filled up with as much cheap diesel (84p per litre) as we could squeeze in and then LPG which is also dirt cheap.

Lots of checks at the border as expected, but what we didn’t expect was for Guy to be informed that he had a speeding offence and do we have a credit card? No idea when that happened, he was probably trying to escape an oncoming car on the wrong side of the road, with driver on mobile 🤣
Anyway, there was no way they were letting us leave the country without paying it! I felt quite relieved when I realised it was £26…could have been a lot worse!
Down to the coast at Alexandroupoli and straight to Lidl. Double the cost of a shop in Migros but we’ve got all the goodies and didn’t have to hide the wine!
On to the beach, turned right, parked up facing the sea, and relax. I love Greece!

As for Türkiye, you can probably guess that it hasn’t been my favourite place. I found the plastic rubbish mountains and dirty back streets hard to deal with. Also, the inequality of men in fake designer t shirts and women dressed head to toe in black robes plus headscarf ..even to swim!!
That said, there’s some amazing historical stuff here, but the distances between them are huge. The people are incredibly friendly and generous but here’s the weirdest thing …I think I’ll miss the call to prayer! 😮

Not sure if Guy has caught the Starlink satellites here or if it’s just an aeroplane (long exposure).

Back to Greece 1/10/24
