Thought we’d continue a little further west and re-visit this lovely lagoon area. The route took us inland on the motorway for a short while, still had to pay a 4 euro toll though. The motorways in Greece are brilliant but all the €4, €5, €6 charges add up quickly and it becomes expensive. Wouldn’t be so bad if we were in a car, but they actually lean out of the toll booth and measure us with a stick – unfortunately, we fall into the truck category!
The lake areas are lovely here especially around the picturesque little monastery on an island. The roadside is full of ‘cotton wool balls’ as there are many cotton fields around – I think it must be harvest time.

Didn’t see many birds really, in fact, insects and birds have both been conspicuous by their absence this trip. There were a few flamingoes in the distance, a heron, but not much else.
Drove back on ourselves a little way to Mesi beach for lunch, but it was such a lovely spot we’ve stayed all day. There’s a salt lagoon on one side that seems to be a different colour every time you look at it, on the other, a nice beach. the sun was shining so we’ve taken full advantage. Didn’t swim though, there’s a cool breeze so I wasn’t brave enough!
