614818C9-04DD-444F-BC83-B6A8E97B4A58Someone set the alarm for 8am this morning so we got up in the dark. ☹️Trouble was, we’d caught a switch on the hot water that turned it off, so still lots of faffing about waiting for it to heat up.
It was a bit drizzly but quite a lot warmer as we walked over the bridge into Badajoz. It could be a really nice town but there were so many boarded up shops – it was a bit sad really.
Filled up with diesel before we entered Portugal which turned out to be a smart move., €1.13 instead of €1.45! Spent a couple of hours driving north east through very green countryside to Tomar.
There is the most amazing castle/convent (Convento de Cristo) which stands high above the town. When we came here last time, I waited outside with Rufus so didn’t see the amazing interior. It has to be one of the best castles in Europe and it’s huge! It was originally a twelfth century Templar stronghold, now a much deserved UNESCO site. Think the photos speak for themselves. Apparently the paintings on the pillars are worn away from where the knights used to say mass before going into battle…on horseback of course!A7DB6852-5B26-4593-BBB4-8104CE55F16A
A very treacherous walk down wet cobbles back to the square in the town – which is also lovely. 5C0A60FA-8739-4606-842D-800B08E36ADAWe’re staying on a free motorhome site which used to be the municipal camping….so it’s got all the gear without the charge….and it’s warm!3D84BBDD-D700-4A39-9D9F-69C0AEC3B30A

Badajoz, then a Return to Tomar (Portugal)
