It was quite noisy through the night with a couple of barking dogs – one with a sore throat. Around 6am there was more commotion with cars and vans pulling in. Checked out of the window, and all the balloons we didn’t see yesterday were here this morning – approximately 156 of them rising up the valley! We ran outside to get photos and video – what a spectacle and we’d parked in prime viewing spot!

Crawled back in bed afterwards – it seemed really cold and we can’t keep up this crack of dawn stuff 🤣
At the hottest part of the day, we drove down to the village of Çavuşin and walked up the dusty hill to what remains of the old village in the rocks. It was a relief to find the Church of St John the Baptist and be in the cool for a while. Some of the frescoes can still be seen around the walls and this is from the fifth century!

I nearly fell over when a woman appeared in one of the windows – there was a sheer drop the other side. I thought she’d abseiled in. Think she must have been a rock climber in her spare time.
Went to fill up with water in the town of Avanos but as there’s no real flow from the taps it’s a case of filling up ten litre canisters and tipping it in.
Back up the road to Uçhisar, we thought we’d see what we could get at the market.
A full bag of vegetables got weighed and the man asked for 60 Turkish Lire (£1.34), then he gave us 50tl back – he seemed confused and we certainly were. Total cost 22p!
No wine in the shops – cheapest Cappadocian wine £13 from ‘I saw you coming’ cave. We’ll go without!
Parked back at the best view in town – no doubt another early start tomorrow.
Happy Birthday 🥳 again to my beau-père (Guy’s dad) 90 years young today!
